Knowing Children’s Rights

As grownups, adults I am sure most of us are aware of our rights- how we like to be treated, what our basic needs are while operating as individuals in a society. We have been educated enough on the topic by social awareness campaigns and through school education as well. But do we know what are the rights of children? How many of us have even had the curiosity to Google it? 😊

It’s never late to learn and here is an opportunity to do so. In 1989, world leaders made a historic commitment to the world’s children by adopting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child – an international agreement on childhood. It’s become the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history and has helped transform children’s lives around the world.

If you are interested in learning about this, here is the adults version of it. However, I suggest we read the children’s version as I think it makes for easier reading than the technical nature of the adult version.

Here is the children friendly version. I think all parents and institutions must read through this, understand it and also share the understanding with children too.
